چکیده

This study aims to explore how the multiple system operators of cable television can remain their existing broadcasting advantages and cope with a strong, competitive telecommunications industry. As new and magnanimous data services are provided, multiple system operators, who have the last-mile advantage, are beginning to experience an increase in subscribers’ demands for bandwidth. First, this study explores the broadband transmission access technology of data over cable service interface specification that is used by multiple system operators of cable television. Next, the EPON technology that is used by carriers is evaluated. Finally, this paper presents a practical case in which a commercialized operation demonstrates how to successfully provide services for IEEE EPON technology on HFC networks. We conclude that the most significant contribution in this field will be a new network architecture that not only retains the characteristics of cable television but also provides high-bandwidth and high-quality broadband services.

Quality of Service Scheduling in Cable and Broadband Wireless Access Systems

In recent years, several last mile high-speed technologies have been explored to provide Internet access and multimedia services to end users [1]. Most notable of those technologies are Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) cable networks, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), Satellite Access, and fixed Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) systems. The de facto standard for delivering broadband services over HFC networ...

A Comparative Study: Offering Multi-Service of the Generic Broadband Residential Access Techniques

Nowadays, the broadband residential access infrastructure remains one of the major research areas for NGN (next generation network). Apart from popular ADSL (asymmetrical digital subscriber loop), HFC (hybrid fiber-coax) and APON (ATM passive optical network), academic communities and industry are increasingly showing great concern about Ethernet technique in the subscriber access network. This...

HFC/CATV Transmission Systems (Invited Paper)

During the past decade, cable television (CATV) systems have evolved from one-way broadcast of analog video transmission to two-way hybrid fiber/coaxial (HFC) networks delivering both analog and broadband services. The broadband services include high speed internet access, cable telephony, video-on-demand, and digital video. In this talk, we describe HFC transmission systems including the infra...

Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) over Cable TV’s Hybrid Fiber/Coax (HFC) Networks

Broadband access technologies of DSL and Cable Modem (CM) are now widely deployed by competing telecom and cable TV network operators respectively. Fiber-based FTTP (FTTH, FTTB, etc.) will be the ultimate access solutions. This paper will examine the broadband access network evolution options for FTTP over cable TV’s HFC networks and discuss its competitiveness when compared with telecom networ...
